I am still slowly reading...just no time to post.

I am in Chapter 5 and still reading about meekness. There is a lot that Kay discusses about meekness in this book. I think she moves on in the next chapter to learning about Righteousness. Yea. I am looking forward to it.Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-11888053961969204122009-03-28T07:57:00.000-07:002009-03-28T08:17:44.671-07:00Chapter 4, Day 2"Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth." Matt 5:5

As I have posted before, this study is taking us through the Sermon on the Mount. In this chapter we are learning about being "gentle". "Meek" or "Meekness" is often translated "Gentle" or "Gentleness". Meekness is one of those words in the Bible that I have always heard and thought that I understood but never really took the time to go "deeper" and study...until now.

What a great first day of study and reading so far, learning more about meekness. Here is a quick summary with what Kay describes as meekness:

"Meekness speaks of a submissive and trusting attitude towards God. It is an attitude which accepts all of God's ways with us as good. It does not murmur or dispute. It neither rebels nor retaliates. It realizes that what comes to us from the hand of man has been permitted by God's sovereignty, has been filtered through His fingers of love, and will be used by God for His glory and our ultimate good. ... Meekness looks beyond circumstances - no matter how upsetting and hurtful - and bows the knee to the sovereign God."Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-89195843222792663502009-03-01T20:26:00.000-08:002009-03-01T20:32:08.752-08:00A New Look!I've been itching to update this blog's look for awhile now so this weekend, I devoted my time to it! I am hoping this new look will inspire me to really get committed to reading our devotional! Amy's on Week 2 and I am barely on day 2!! So I need to get caught up!!

Disclaimer: This blog's look reflects me and my personality! Amy's not a pink girly girl! Sorry Ames!! I promise next time to make it look more like you! (You know I'll be changing it up soon!! I can't seem to help myselft!!)Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876197031014545866noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-80655591843648547372009-02-26T21:52:00.000-08:002009-02-26T22:09:04.325-08:00Getting Ready to start week 2Yep, I finally finished week 1. It was some really good stuff.

Come on Jen. Keep reading with me.

Week one covered the background and understanding the Sermon on the Mount. Here are few of my "highlights" (literally...yellow highlights to be specific) :)

*Righteousness is an absolute necessity for those who are going to enter the kingdom of heaven. "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matt 5:20

* "We live in a time when many who claim to know Christ undermine the Gospel by short-circuiting the radical implications of a life of discipleship as set forth by Jesus the Christ. " (a statement by Robert Guelich used by Kay Arthur)

*True Christianity is Discipleship

*The Sermon on the Mount is a teaching given by Jesus Himself on the new relationship with Him that is ours through the New Covenant.

*More to come: learning about the Character, Conflict and Conduct that comes with a relationship with Him.Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-35643754747997525972009-02-21T11:51:00.000-08:002009-03-03T04:58:48.030-08:00It's been TOO Long!!I am embarrassed it's been so long since I last posted on this blog! The reason why I am embarrassed is because I haven't gotten very far in the study my sister and I had started! Yesterday she emailed me to let me know she has gotten a little further in our study and to remind me to keep reading! So this weekend I am going to make it a priority to start reading our devotional study! I really feel the need to draw closer to the Lord and think this is best way to spend time with Him!

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday!!

Blessings,

Jen
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876197031014545866noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-58941847008714486482009-01-12T08:59:00.000-08:002009-01-12T09:23:55.346-08:00The Sermon on the MountIn starting this study, the first thing to do is to read "The Sermon on the Mount", Matthew 5-7. In this sermon are the beatitudes as well as what Jesus tells us belonging to the Kingdom would mean in our daily lives, the changes that will come and the price we will have to pay in making those changes.

There is so much to learn in these 3 short chapters. I can see how it will take 9 weeks (the time line for this study) to work through it all.Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-15075510200047402432009-01-12T08:18:00.000-08:002009-01-12T08:35:33.666-08:00New Year ResolutionI figured this would be the appropriate place to post my new year resolution being that it is to "finally start and work through our (Jen and I) Bible study together". This resolution, if you will, is the physical act of what I truly hope for and desire as my new year resolution, and that is to draw closer to God. The study is from a book, Lord, Only You Can Change Me, that will take us through growing in our character through studying the scriptures on the Beatitudes.

I am looking forward to reading and studying each day. I will say, as far as posting and writing about what I learn is actually going to be more difficult for me then studying the text and scripture. I am not the best writer and it makes things even harder for me when I have to write about personal feelings and experiences.

Anyways...here's to a new start! Are you ready too, Jen?Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-64153263901339426912008-11-23T13:11:00.000-08:002008-11-23T13:24:11.750-08:00ThankfulI read a post today on a great website called Real Life and thought I would share it here!! On a side note Amy and I both have our devotional books! YAY!! So now it's just a matter of making time for our devotion and sharing it here! Pray for us!! We both lead pretty busy lives!!

Anyways, back to Real Life! Sarah wrote a great post about America's financial crisis and it being part of God's plan. I really hit home to remember that God has his hand in all this. It also was very humbling to remember all I need in this world is Him! To think of all the worldly possession I have, that I could easily do with out if finances were an issue! Think about it, do I really need my cell phone, my computer, internet(shiver) cable tv, coach purses, gas guzzling SUV!! And the sad thing is I could go on and on!! I am grateful for the job I have, even if at times it wears on me, and for being able to have all the nice material things I own.

As I head into the holiday season, a season of Thanksgiving, I am reminded to be thankful for what I have and to give a little to others that may not be as fortunate, in this time of financial crsis!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876197031014545866noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-28654294787236566482008-11-13T21:07:00.000-08:002008-11-13T21:10:25.858-08:00It Won't Be Long Now!!I just ordered my book and it should be here in a week!! I am really looking forward to our study!! It won't be long now Amy!! Yay!!!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876197031014545866noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-33405224554122132412008-11-10T22:53:00.000-08:002008-11-10T23:10:24.273-08:00We did it.We finally decided on a study/ book to read through together.

It is "Lord, Only You can Change Me" by Kay Arthur

Kay Arthur is a wonderful author, speaker and teacher of God's word. The most valuable studies that I have ever done have been from her. She is the founder and Co-CEO of Precepts Ministries International out of Chattanooga, TN. All of her Bible studies are inductive studies (using scripture to teach scripture). I am at a loss of words to even begin to describe how these studies have changed me and my life.

I, personally, have never done this study before. I am sure that it is going to be great and am excited to learn all that God has for me through it. "Lord, Only You Can Change Me" is part of her "LORD" series topical Bible studies. It is based upon the Sermon on the Mount, the beatitudes and what Jesus has to say about the way we are to live.

In fact, Jen...I finally ordered mine today. Hurry and get yours because I can't wait to start. :)Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-68350635422000687472008-11-02T09:01:00.001-08:002008-11-02T09:08:56.937-08:00Getting Close! If you've been stopping by and havn't seen much activity going on here, it's because we are getting close to figuring out what study to do!! As Amy mentioned we are still deciding on what devotional to start! We have narrowed it down to a "Lord series" by Kay Arthur but now it's just a matter of which one and ordering the books!! I am so excited to get started!! It won't be long now, we're getting close!!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876197031014545866noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-2252691829290100342008-10-27T22:22:00.000-07:002008-10-27T22:27:57.314-07:00Still DecidingWe are still in the stage of deciding what we are going to study together. Once we figure that out then you will begin to see this site more active.

If you have any recommendations please let us know.

Until next time...Ameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589205229730335067noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1662955570895598245.post-92084945294662776132008-10-19T13:24:00.001-07:002008-10-19T16:32:43.302-07:00The Bond of Sisterhood! The Bond of Sisterhood is a blog created by two sisters who love each other and have a strong love for the Lord.
